Sliding mattress around from the bed frame is a very common problem. This slightest provocation can throw your entire sleep out of whack, leaves you tired, and ending up on the floor, snoring you up all day. However, a sliding mattress is maybe a sign that you now need a new mattress because your old one is not enough to give you support. Likewise, some DIY strategies will help you to keep your mattress from moving around on your bed frame. Let’s start with some cheap DIY methods to solve this problem.
Non-Slip Mattress Pad
Buying a non-slip mattress pad is an economical way to get rid of slipping and sliding of the mattress. These non-slip mattress pads come in rubber form which is often used to keep carpets in place etc. Non-slip mattress pads come in thin layer foam so that they couldn’t change the feel of the bed.
Before buying it, you must have to know about the accurate size of your bed so that you can have the accurate size of your mattress pad. Just like you have a queen size mattress that is 60’’ wide and 80’’ long. This will help you to make sure you are purchasing the accurate size product for your mattress. You may want to go for a little bigger size of your bed, as you can trim it any way you want to. If you have California king size mattress and can’t have a pad size big enough, you can pair two separate mattress pads together.
For placing in their right place, you just have to lift your mattress and place the pad on the foundation of your mattress box frame. Then place the mattress in its right position. Many of the non-slip mattress pads can be washed easily if they get dirty too.
Vacuum Under Your Mattress
Vacuum under your mattress may seems like a little thing but it may reduce the movement of your mattress. Hence there are too much dust, crumbs and other debris particles which accumulate between your mattress and the bed frame.
Before vacuuming it, consider decolorizing your mattress, it will help make your bed clean and smell fresh. Strip your mattress and sprinkle a layer of baking soda on both sides of your mattress and left it for 20 minutes, so that it absorbs the allergic dirt and bacteria. Use the upholstery attachment, vacuum the baking soda all over the mattress. Flip the mattress over and repeat the step.
Velcro Strips
Velcro Strips are also known as Adhesive Hook-and-Loop, is a great and very effective way to hold mattress at its accurate place. Separate the two hook and loop sides of the Velcro strip. Place the ‘hook’ Velcro strips under the mattress and the ‘loop’ Velcro strips over the bed frame. Make sure that the ‘hook’ and ‘loop’ pieces of the Velcro strip on both sides are precisely equal to each other. If the ‘hook’ sides of the Velcro strip don’t match the ’loop’ side, the Velcro strip doesn’t work in any way. You can also put a long Velcro strip on the foot and head sides of your mattress and also in the center if you want.
Double-sided carpet tapes can also be used as an alternative for Velcro tapes but these carpet tapes are not log-lasting or stable as compare to Velcro strips. Hence these carpet tapes are a temporary solution.
Rubber Matting
One of the most economical ways to place your mattress at its right position is the use of rubber matting under your mattress. Basically, rubber is the natural adhesive that can keep things in their right place. This way is economical enough that you don’t have to buy any rubber mat from any store. You just have to search for the following things at your home i.e.
- A rubber Welcome Mat
- Non-skid rubber rug pads
- A thin yoga mat
- Shelf Liners
Now you just have to put one of these between the mattress and the bed frame. Just make sure that the matting will be thin enough that this will not create any lumps or bumps on your mattress.
If you are unable to find any of these rubber mats at your home, you can also purchase them from any store or online. The rubber mats you will find in stores are one side cover paper adhesive. You just have to remove the cover paper and press it on the inner edges of the bed frame just like its rubber side corresponds with the mattress to keep it from sliding. For this purpose, you have to measure the size of your bed before buying the rubber matt.
