Who is this Casper Sleep Original Hybrid Mattress recommended for?

Casper Sleep Original Hybrid Mattress has its niche of ideal customers. Let’s see which people will benefit the most from the Casper Sleep Original Hybrid mattress.

Casper Sleep Original Hybrid Mattress is Recommended for

Given its construction and extra firmness, the Casper Sleep Original Hybrid is best suited for the following types of sleepers.

Back Sleepers

People who sleep on their backs will find this mattress to be immensely comfortable. It provides a lot of features to relieve pain in the shoulders and the back.

Side Sleepers

People who sleep on their sides will find this mattress to be comfortable.

Stomach Sleepers

The Casper Sleep Original Hybrid is generally suitable for light sleepers. The inclusion of pocketed coils is designed to provide support, promoting a well-aligned spine from shoulders to hips during sleep.

Average Weight Sleepers

People who weigh between 130 to 230 pounds will find this bed to be comfortable in all sleeping positions.

Couples

People who share their bed with another person will love the Casper Original Hybrid due to its high-motion isolation capabilities.

Casper Sleep Original Hybrid Not Recommended for

The Casper Sleep Original Hybrid is a popular choice for many individuals, offering great comfort and quality. However, it’s important to note some limitations. This mattress may not be suitable for everyone, and we advise against it for the following individuals:

Lightweight Side Sleepers

This mattress is not comfortable for lightweight sleepers in general. But the side sleeping position is particularly bad because the mattress is too firm to give way under their weight. Thus they sleep in an awkward position and get sore.

Heavy-weight Sleepers

This mattress is not firm enough for people who weigh more than 230 pounds. The mattress will give way underneath their weight and taco around them which is not comfortable.

How is the Casper Sleep Original Hybrid Designed/Constructed?

The Casper Sleep Original Hybrid has a tri-layer design just like the Sleep Original. The top layer consists of a soft and breathable comfort layer called AirScape. This layer has lots of tiny holes or perforations in it that help hot air to escape. Therefore, this mattress is quite cool.
The second layer is yet another foam layer. It is a comfort and support layer hybrid as it is zoned. Basically, it has two sections; a soft top and bottom but a firm middle. The firm middle section falls right under the hips and the lower spine i.e., the lumbar. The softer section provides comfort to the shoulders.
The final layer is a pure support layer and is also responsible for the name of this mattress. It is a foam layer with spring coils in it for extra support. This layer provides extra firmness to this mattress therefore putting it on the higher side of firmness for medium-firm mattresses.
Now, let’s see what benefits this unique construction offers to its users.

What are the Features of Casper Sleep Original Hybrid Mattress?

Behold, as we embark on an epic exploration of the extraordinary features that define the Casper Sleep Original Hybrid! Brace yourselves for a journey through innovation and comfort, as we unveil the mysteries, beginning with the very first revelation. Prepare to be amazed!

Motion Isolation/Transfer

As the foam construction is supplemented with spring coils in the Casper Sleep Original Hybrid Mattress, the motion isolation is impeccable. You will barely feel anyone tossing or turning on this mattress (your mileage may vary depending on the weight). I found that for simple motions like tossing or turning, sitting at the edge, and getting up transfer almost no vibration/disturbance at all.

Even high-profile actions such as jumping on the bed had far less effect than I anticipated. Let’s just say that if you have a pet dog that likes to jump on the bed, you are better off using this mattress to avoid getting disturbed.

A five-star review by Chuck P. says the following about the motion isolation on the Casper Sleep Original Hybrid.

“Does not transfer movements of one-bed partner to the other.”

Pressure Relief

Pressure relief is one of the strengths of foam mattresses. The Casper Sleep Original Hybrid is no exception to this rule either. In fact, it excels at it due to the presence of the zoned support/comfort layer.

This is the second layer of the mattress and as we previously saw, it is firm around the middle but soft at the top and bottom. The firm middle layer provides great lumbar support and relieves pressure on the spine and the hips. The softer top and bottom provide a comfy retreat for the shoulders, relieving them of pain and pressure.

The combination of these zones makes for a perfect night’s sleep in the back sleeping position. So, it is a good mattress for people who have painful backs and sore shoulders. Here is a review by Shaun Burger (an Amazon Customer) detailing how their back pain was cured after switching to this mattress.

“About 2 years ago I started having back and neck pains. The pains eventually got so bad I was seeing professional help. Nothing worked.

I decided to finally try the mattress, even though I thought the original one was fine. Boy, am I glad I did. I have not had a single ounce of pain since changing mattresses”

And

“If you are suffering from pain like I was and are in your 30s or 40s, consider buying a casper hybrid or alike mattress. Yes it sucks putting so much money down for it. But think about it, you sleep on it EVERY DAY. It is an essential investment.

Edge Support

You might know this already, but foam mattresses are quite frankly terrible at edge support. The edges on such mattresses sink instantly and make the sleeper feel like they can only sleep near the center of the mattress.

But that is not the case with Casper Sleep Original Hybrid. This mattress has great edge support. That is due to the coiled support layer at the bottom which has a firm border that provides reliable edge support. Additionally, the coils are much firmer than foam so naturally they don’t give so easily under weight. And this results in great edge support.

Here is what Chucky P. had to say about the edge support.

“This mattress is supportive, without being hard, and is soft without being mushy. Excellent side edge rigidity.”

Customers will be glad to know that the entire surface of the mattress is available for resting, sitting, and otherwise using the mattress. They won’t feel as if they can only sleep near the center. That is great news for people who like to sleep near the edge (like me). Of course, your mileage may vary depending on your weight, so make sure you read that section of the review as well.

Cooling and Temperature Regulation

As is the case with all Casper mattresses that have an AirScape layer on the top the cooling is adequate. The perforations allow the hot air to escape from the mattress and keep it cool. It might not reach the coolness level of the Casper Snow variants, but it does a great job nonetheless.

People who tend to get hot while they sleep will be quite comfortable in the Casper Sleep Original Hybrid mattress. AirScape is a proprietary foam developed by Casper that helps deliver this cool experience.

A short and sweet review by Am says the following about this mattress

“Stays cool throughout the night”

Evaluating the Casper Sleep Original Hybrid Mattress Across Various Weights and Sleeping Positions

We tested this mattress for all kinds of sleepers. The tests were for light (<130 pounds), average (130-230 pounds), and heavy (230+ pounds) in all three sleeping positions. Let’s take a look at their results.

Light Weight Sleepers in all three positions

Lightweight people typically require soft mattresses that conform to their bodies. If the mattress is too firm, lightweight sleepers can’t sink into it, and that results in bad sleeping posture. Unfortunately, the Casper Sleep Original Hybrid is on the firmer side and that’s why the results of these tests are not too stellar.

Light Weight Side Sleepers

In the side sleeping posture, lightweight sleepers will find that their shoulders sink, but their midsection does not. That is due to the zoned support layer. The firmer middle zone prevents a lightweight sleeper’s midsection from sinking. This results in a skewed sleeping position where the pelvis is raised higher than the head. That is not a comfortable position to sleep in.

But that is understandable because mattresses with coiled supports are typically for heavier people. So lightweight people are not the target market. They should use all-foam mattresses such as the Casper Element, or Casper Original instead.

Light Weight Back Sleepers

Back sleeping for lightweight people is not as bad as side sleeping. That’s mainly because the shoulders do not sink in this position, so the skewed sleeping posture does not occur. However, the lack of conformity will be felt. So while more comfortable than the side sleeping posture, it is still not ideal.

Light Weight Stomach Sleepers

In a twist of fate, the stomach sleeping posture might be the most comfortable sleeping position. To be comfortable in the stomach your midsection must not sink. For lightweight people that is no issue. The added support from the zoned layer makes it almost impossible for the midsection of a lightweight sleeper to sink. So, stomach sleeping actually turned out to be a great position for lightweight sleepers.

We strongly suggest delving into our comprehensive review of the Casper Sleep Original Foam Mattress. Gain valuable insights into its features and performance, empowering you to make an informed decision for a superior sleep experience.

Average Weight Sleepers in all three positions

This is the de facto target audience for the Casper Sleep Original Hybrid Mattress. As such they get the most benefits from this mattress. Let’s see how they fare in all three sleeping positions.

Average Weight Side Sleepers

Side sleeping for the average weight sleeper is quite comfortable on the Casper Original Hybrid mattress. The major issue all side sleepers have is that their midsection and shoulders need to sink in a balanced ratio so that their spine stays in alignment.

That is not a problem for people who weigh more than 130 pounds. If they are above that weight limit, then their shoulders and pelvis will sink into the AirScape layer just enough that it conforms around them.  This provides comfort and keeps the spine in a neutral and resting state.

Average Weight Back Sleepers

Zoned support mattresses are typically great at back sleeping positions. For the average-weight human, sleeping on the Casper Sleep Original Hybrid will provide a comfortable experience.

The zoned layer provides great lumbar support which is a frequently strained part of the back. The softer upper area allows the shoulders to rest without straining them. Overall, it is a great experience.

Average Weight Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleeping is comfortable on this mattress because of the zoned support. As you know in this position the problem is that the pelvis sinks too much into the mattress and that puts strain on the spine.

But that does not happen here because of the zoned support layer. The middle zone of this layer is actually firmer than the top or the bottom, so it prevents the pelvis from sinking into the mattress. As a result, the sleeper has a comfortable rest.

We recommend taking a look at our review of the Casper Mattress. It’s worth exploring for additional insights into this product.

Heavy Weight Sleepers in all three positions

Although this mattress is aimed at more heavy-set people, it still has mixed performance for them. Let’s see what positions it excels in providing comfort and which ones could use more comfort.

Heavy Weight Side Sleepers

Heavy-weight side sleepers who are near the 230-pound cut-off will find this mattress to be quite comfortable. The closer they are to this number the more comfortable they will be. However, they cannot stay in the side position for too long. So, strict side sleepers should take note of this.

As for more weighty people who are significantly heavier than 230 pounds, this position will not work. They will simply sink right down to the coiled layer which will struggle to hold them up. So, such people should look for firmer options in mattresses.

Heavy Weight Back Sleepers

Heavy-weight back sleepers will be adequately comfortable. In this position, the mattress is able to distribute the weight across its surface evenly, so there is much less sinking.

Not much else to be said except that the zoned support provides some comfort to the lumbar region. However, if you are too heavy then you won’t even feel there is a zone as everything will simply give way due to the weight.

Heavy Weight Stomach Sleepers

Unfortunately, heavy-weight stomach sleepers will not have a good time on this mattress. After everything is said and done, this is still a foam mattress and foam mattresses are simply not designed for heavy people.

The midsection of heavy people will sink a little too much for comfort and will result in back pain if the posture is held for long. So, my advice is to check out a firmer option like the Nova Hybrid.

Ease of Use and Customer Service/Support of the Casper Sleep Element Mattress

The Casper company firmly believes in providing top-quality mattresses to their customers since 2014. They have successfully accomplished this by prioritizing their customer’s convenience and support above everything else.

Let’s take a look at some steps that have helped achieve this.

Unboxing and off gassing Casper Sleep Original Hybird

It requires little effort to unbox the Casper Sleep Original Hybrid Mattress. A four feet tall box contains the mattress which is rolled up and covered by two sheets of plastic. To assemble it, all that needs to be done is to transfer the box to the room it will be placed in, remove the sheets of plastic and it will start taking its shape in no time.

This process of inflation does not take more than a few minutes, but it is preferred to wait for a couple of hours to ensure the mattress has taken its shape fully before beginning to use it.

For users sensitive to sharp odors, it is advisable to first unpack it in a well-ventilated area and then shift it to the desired room, as it may give off a chemical scent at first. This smell comes from a layer of polyurethane in it and is not expected to last for more than a couple of hours. It may take a maximum of 2 days to completely clear away, depending on the type of ventilation provided.

As an added bonus, you can read this review by Amazon user “1957Hedgehog” that says the following:

“Fit and finish are excellent, set up was easy.”

And

“We slept on it 9 hrs after we set it up and it was just fine with no unusual odors.”
